Overcoming Dental Anxiety with Sedation Dentistry

Posted .

Are you aware that there is a multitude of ways to ease any pain and discomfort you may feel when going to the dentist? Did you know there are pills that can help chase your worries and fears away? Overcoming dental anxiety with sedation dentistry is possible with the following treatments:

– Oral Sedation: Oral sedation is used with pills and tablets to achieve the desired effect. This process is easily customizable based on dosage and desired effect, but it does take a while for the sedative to take effect, often up to as much as an hour.

– Inhaled Minimal Sedation: The gas mixture used in inhaled sedation consists of oxygen and nitrous oxide, a mixture known as laughing gas, which is inhaled and typically is used when a patient needs to be relaxed.

– Intravenous Sedation: Intravenous sedation occurs when a sedative is injected directly into the bloodstream, which is extremely effective and extremely fast-acting. Levels can be adjusted to achieve the anticipated effect, up to placing the patient into a sleep state.

– Anesthetic Sedation: Deep sedation happens with the use of general anesthesia, which is often considered the strongest form of sedative, as it puts patients into a deep sleep where they remain until the sedative has completely worn off.
